How to Reach

By Road: Sibsagar is well connected with major cities of Assam state by road. It is 2 Kms from Bishnu Nagar, 12 Kms from Gaurisagar, 83 km from Dibrugarh, 117 Kms from Kamrup, and is linked through Assam State Road Transport Corporation (ASRTC) and some private travel services.


BY AIR

the nearest airport at Jorhat. One can also avail of flight options from the Dibrugarh Airport that is about 95 km away from Sivasagar. Once you reach Jorhat or Dibrugarh, you can avail of taxis that will take you to Sivasagar.


BY RAIL

Sivasagar has a railway station called Sibsagar Town Railway Station. There are several local trains and express trains that ferry through this railway station. A few of the trains that pass through this station are New Tinsukia - Bengaluru Weekly Express, Dibrugarh - Agartala Express, Kamakhya Dibrugarh intercity Express, Rangiya Dibrugarh Express.

About Sibasagar:

Sivasagar is one of the top historical attractions in Assam. It has a large number of historical monuments, most of which were built by the Ahom Kingdom. The city is named after the pristine Sivasagar Lake which is more than 200 years old and a popular tourist site in the region. Sivasagar was once the capital of the Ahom Dynasty from the year 1699 to 1788. During that time, it was known as Rangpur. The Ahom rulers constructed many forts, temples, and palaces in the city during their reign. These historical monuments can still be seen and are presently serving as the top tourist attractions in Sivasagar. Amongst the many historical attractions in the city, Talatal Ghar, Siva Dol Temple, and Vishnu Dol Temple are the famous places of tourist interest in Sivasagar. Ranghar


A little distance towards the North-east from this royal palace and by the side  of the Assam-Trunk Road stands another imposing two-storeyed building. This is Rangghar, the royal sports-pavilion of Ahom kings which was constructed during the reign of Swargadeo Prmafta Singha in 1746.


Kareng Ghar & Talatal Ghar    


About four kilometers south to Sivasagar town, the seven storyed  Kareng ghar, the capital and military station of the Ahom kings, is: situated. First constructed by the Ahom king Rudra Singha in 1700, alterations, additions and new constructions to this palace were made by the, successors,of Swargadeo Rudra Singha. The Talatalghar made of brick and an indigenous type of cement was constructed by king Rajeswar Singha. It is a building of seven stories- four above and three below the-ground- over and above the two underground ways-the one leading to the Dikhow river is about three kilometers i length which were later blocked by the East India company. 


Ahom Museum


For historical buffs, Ahom Museum is yet another delightful place to visit in Sivasagar city. The museum depicts the glory of Ahom Kingdom. For that, it houses a rich assortment of exhibits like royal armoury, clothes, swords, goblets, manuscripts and more. Founded in the year 1972, this museum in Sivasagar gives tourists a sneak peek of art, artefacts and jewellery related to the Ahom Dynasty.


Siva Dol


this place happens to be one of the most famous pilgrimage spots in the country as well. Siva Dol is the tallest Shiva temple in entire Northeast India. It is the highest temple in the country as well with a height of 104 feet. The Vishnu Dol and Devi Dol are other two small temples surrounding this tall temple and are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Durga. These temples are situated on the banks of the famous Sibsagar Lake which is more than 200 years old.
